One Million Tree Programme (OMTP)

Sri Lanka Climate Fund (SLCF) Launched One Million Tree Programme (OMTP) on 5th of June 2016 (Environmental Day) at Kongahawela near Moragahakanda. This programme will support to achieve Intended Nationally Determined Contribution of Sri Lanka in forest sector that we agreed under Paris Agreement.

In the execution of inaugural program, 4000 trees are planted in a 10 acres government land in Moragahakanda. The area dedicated for reforestation is found on the map at the coordinate values of N 70.688717 and E 80.0709788. The community in Kongahawela village involves in this project and it contributes to enhance their rural economy in various means.

Under this initiative, seedlings are grown in the catchment area of Moragahakanda- Kaluganga reservoir. While ensuring water quality, it increases ground water availability in the catchment.
